Bushfires continue to ravage parts of Australia, placing thousands of people and millions of animals in grave danger.
As of January 6th, 24 people have died and over 6.3 million hectares of land are estimated to have been burned. Officials are also estimating almost 500 million animals are affected in New South Wales alone, one of the worst areas hit. Early reports are also estimating millions of animals have died, with exact figures unknown as fires continue to rage.
In New South Wales, over 1,300 homes have been burned and thousands of people have been evacuated. In the neighbouring state of Victoria, an estimated 1,000 people were rescued on a beach as flames swept the town of Mallacoota.
Escalating over the past week, initial fires have been burning since September. Cooler temperatures and rain are helping conditions, however, fires continue to burn and donations are needed to help those affected. Canadian charities are supporting recovery areas and victims affected.
