CanadaHelps has been contacted by a number of individuals regarding an email they received from a sender claiming to be the “General Bank of Canada” or “BANCO GENERAL DE CANADÁ” from tfdirect@generalb-ca.com. This email is sent in Spanish or English, and also includes the CanadaHelps logo and a fake email address with the domain @cdahelps.org.
These are not legitimate emails and were not sent by General Bank of Canada or CanadaHelps.
If you have received such an email, we recommend that you report the email and then immediately afterward delete it. Do not click any links contained within the email message, respond to the message, or send any documents to the address in the email. You can report the email by contacting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
We understand the confusion and concern these email scams cause. We have reported the email messages shared with us and we will continue to monitor the problem and post any updates here.
