While some may remember 2020 for its challenges, I know I will look back on 2020 as the year we saw boundless generosity and communities coming together. I’ll remember the stories of neighbours checking in on one another to make sure isolated seniors had enough food to stay safe at home. I will think back to the volunteers who sewed masks for others in need. I will also remember the nightly cheers and banging pots and pans from homes across the country in honour of our front line workers risking their health to save others.
Among so many other memories, I will remember how so many of you opened your hearts and wallets to support the causes you care deeply about and the charities on the front lines serving those most in need. On behalf of the team at CanadaHelps, thank you for your incredible generosity this year. You have helped feed children, care for animals and our planet, helped front line healthcare workers access the equipment they need to fight COVID‑19, and so much more.
As we near the final hours of 2020, charities are working hard to meet their year-end fundraising goals while continuing to respond to an increased demand for their services including food, shelter, counselling, and more. Many charities have also had to cancel in-person fundraisers throughout the year and need to make up for these critical funds so their work can keep going into 2021. As a Canadian, I’m so grateful to the nearly 1.5 million people working in charities across the country (and many more volunteering). Their efforts were critical in supporting us through this difficult year.
As we turn the page to a new year, I want to thank you for your commitment to creating a better, more equitable, and hopeful world. May 2021 bring you good health and happiness to you and yours.
With gratitude,
Marina Glogovac
