The Walrus Talks events are dynamic discussions of the issues facing our world. The speakers are diverse in age and life experience – from authors and artists, to activists and business people. They’ve covered topics ranging from The Art of Conversation, Resilience, Energy, Water, Human Rights, Sustainability, The Art of the City, and many more. On November 25, 2014 at Koerner Hall, TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning in Toronto, The Walrus Talks will again be discussing an issue we’re all thinking about at CanadaHelps: Philanthropy.
Presented by the RBC Foundation, The Walrus Talks Philanthropy will feature eight seven-minute talks on the state of philanthropy, how we’re doing it wrong, how it can change for the better, and what giving really means. Speakers include:
- Terry O’Reilly, CBC Radio host and advertising expert
- Tom Jackson, actor, singer and activist
- Molly Johnson, singer-songwriter
- Michael Koerner, business leader and arts advocate
- Sonnet L’Abbé, poet and critic
- Gordon Floyd, co-editor of The Philanthropist
- Justin Poy, president and creative director of The Justin Poy Agency
- Bill Young, founder of Social Capital Partners
Last year at this event, the audience heard from speakers like Dr. Samantha Nutt, founder and executive of War Child Canada, who urged us “not to give to charity – give to change.” What will this year bring?
