Choir! Choir! Choir! never ceases to prove that amazing things happen when people come together. That’s why Nobu Adilman, my Choir! Choir! Choir! co-founder and I are always striving to find new ways to make a difference by harnessing the power of our growing community.
At Choir! Choir! Choir! we meet twice a week at a bar in Toronto to sing our hearts out with a group of inspired singers. In the past, we’ve raised money for specific charities, sponsored two refugee families, and released charity singles. But this year our 2016 holiday campaign is a little different. This year, we really wanted to create something that felt uniquely Choir! Choir! Choir! We came up with 25 Days Of Charity! Charity! Charity!, and we are so excited!
#25DaysOfCharity is a big idea, but it’s actually pretty simple. We kicked it off by establishing the Choir! Choir! Choir! Foundation in conjunction with the Toronto Foundation. Then we donated $12,500 to the fund, with the idea that the community would match (or exceed!) our donation. Next, we selected 25 Choir! members and asked them to recommend at least three charities they care about. From those submissions, we selected 25 organizations that showcase a wide range of issues, ideas, and important causes. On December 1st, our website was converted into an advent calendar highlighting those organizations, and the choir members who selected them.
We really wanted to create a campaign that reflects the diverse and inclusive space that makes Choir! Choir! Choir! so special to all of us. I think we managed to do that with #25DaysOfCharity.
We feel that a donation to #25DaysOfCharity is more than just a donation. It’s also a firm commitment to the belief that we all deserve equal representation, and that all our voices matter. This campaign gives Choir! Choir! Choir! members a chance to shine a light on organizations that mean something to all of us—because being part of a community means paying attention not just to the issues you care about, but also those that matter to your fellow community members. We are so lucky to live in a country where we can stand up for what we believe in, and we want to keep doing that – together.
